Premed Meeting: Army Health Professions Scholarship and Doctor for Infectious Diseases.
At this Wednesday’s meeting, we will have the Army HPSP program coordinator speaking about the Army’s scholarship program for medical professionals. We will also have a Walter Reed pediatric infectious disease specialist speaking about his experience.

This Wednesday, the UMBC Interdisciplinary Studies program will be coming to speak about what it means to create your own major at UMBC!
Our very own President and Treasurer Adam Gerber and Donna Huynh are both INDS majors! Adam is a neuropsychology major and Donna is a Pediatric Health Care major.

Important Announcements from Mrs. Roelke!
A representative from Ohio State University College of Optometry will be visiting UMBC on Wednesday, October 24th, 2012 during free hour in Sondheim Hall room 109.
A representative from Salus University will be visiting UMBC on Monday, November 5, 2012 during Free Hour in Sondheim Room 109. Salus will be highlighting their optometry program, but they also offer the following: Doctor of Optometry, Doctor of Audiology, Physician Assistant (Masters of Medical Science), Master of Public Health, and various Rehabilitation programs.
From now until November 15, Walkin Hours and Appointments will be reserved for current UMBC Juniors, Seniors, and UMBC Post-Bac students ONLY. After November 15, Walkin Hours and Appointments will be open again to ALL current UMBC students after the office shifts back to its normal schedule and processes.

Relay For Life!
This will likely be the biggest event of the year! Sponsored by the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life is an overnight relay-style event where our student body forms teams of people to camp out in the quad overnight (6pm-6am). The members of each team take turns walking around the track for the night. There will be food, games, activities, and a little bit of friendly competition to see which team can raise the most money! Fundraising efforts and donations go to the American Cancer Society who continue to help fight back against cancer through research, finding cures, and helping people get well. Second Premed Society Events Committee Meeting!
Our events committee meeting was today, and it went great! We came up with a plethora of fun things to do with the society throughout the semester. Stay tuned!
First Meeting Success
Our first meeting was a success. We had a great turnout, over 100 new and returning pre-med students came out to hear our introduction, which was followed by a presentation by the Study Abroad program at UMBC.

There is a MANDATORY freshman advising meeting for all new UMBC freshman or freshman-transfer students who are interested in attending medical, dental, optometry, podiatry, or veterinary school after graduating from UMBC. There are, as of right now, no more spots remaining in the GW trip. However, if you were not able to go this time there are still plenty of opportunities left to get event credit.
